Overview

Description

This course is the first of the sequence of two, three-credit courses constituting the social work field education program required of Generalist Practice Master of Social Work (MSW) students. It consists of completing 225 hours at a supervised practicum in an approved practicum site that provides opportunities for students to demonstrate the generalist social work competencies and integration of professional content through a seminar course.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate emerging competence in field practicum indicative of generalist social work practice as outlined by the Council on Social Work Education social work competencies and complete 225 hours of Field Practicum.
  • understand and practice within the principles and policies guiding social workers, laws governing social workers mandated reporting laws, and other pertinent laws associated with the practicum setting.
  • foster development of professional identity assessing abilities, skills, biases, and cultural awareness through reflective practice and ethical decision-making during field experiences, supervision, and engagement in seminar course.
  • examine complex social welfare issues that arise in the field practicum utilizing knowledge, values, and skills acquired in coursework.
  • understand how to incorporate anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion practices into field practicum activities.
