- explain the history, philosophy, goals, values, and structure of child welfare practice and child welfare service delivery.
- describe the history and importance of strengths-based, collaborative practice with families.
- demonstrate an understanding of the various interventions used in the child welfare system.
- assess a given family’s structure, life cycle, strengths, and weaknesses using the concepts of family involvement and empowerment from the very first contact.
- differentiate between the concepts of safety and risk and be able to identify the factors that contribute to them.
- describe the practice competencies essential for direct practice work with vulnerable, at-risk families, including the importance of engagement, assessment, and collaborative case planning and case management.
