  • articulate literary and political connections between the classical period and medieval Spain.
  • examine the Spanish medieval period and its relationship with medieval Western Europe and address such issues as race, class, gender, and national identity.
  • compare analytically the role of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity in medieval Spain; and also, the representation of such cultures in literary texts.
  • analyze and contrast differences among subcultures in the medieval Iberian Peninsula.
