- demonstrate a general grasp of policy-making in the relevant European countries with a good knowledge of most important domestic and foreign-policy issues.
- demonstrate familiarity with the important pan-European themes which have dominated the recent political scene.
- explain in broad terms the functioning of the European Union and the role of its main institutions as well as the main mission and policies of the Council of Europe with its European Court of Human Rights.
- discuss the role of the EU as a “civilian power” in the international relations as well as the strong and weak points of its actions abroad.
- discuss the relevant theories of European integration.
- demonstrate a general grasp of the challenges facing the EU in the 21st century.
