Overview
Description
This course provides an overview of the different careers in public health. Public health practitioners from government, non-profit organizations, and the private sector will present and discuss their work and how they make and implement public health decisions that affect a wide range of public health functions and communities.These presentations and discussions will provide students the opportunity to learn how essential public health functions are applied in the day-to-day practice of public health professionals.

- discuss various public health topics and their related real-world public health practice.
- identify the socio-economic, behavioral, biological, environmental, and other factors that impact human health and contribute to health disparities.
- utilize the basic processes, approaches, and interventions that identify and address the major health-related needs and concerns of populations.
- apply the basic concepts, methods, and tools of public health data collection, use, and analysis and why evidence-based approaches are an essential part of public health practice.
- communicate public health information with diverse audiences (CEPH BS Foundational Competency).
- discuss the means by which structural bias, social inequities and racism undermine health and create challenges to achieving health equity at organizational, community, and systemic levels (CEPH MPH Foundational Competency).
