Overview
Description
Development of QA requirements for design, procurement, fabrication, examination, and testing of radioactive material packaging and storage casks to satisfy regulatory requirements. Primarily offered at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois. May occasionally be offered at the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Students are responsible for all national laboratory fees and expenses associated with the course location.

Learning Outcomes
- apply engineering research and theory to advance the art, science, and practice of the discipline.
- apply federal regulations for QA that govern transport packages and storage casks, along with DOE and NRC guidance documents in Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARPs).
- demonstrate their knowledge of federal law specified in federal regulations for transport packaging and storage casks from 10 CFR §§ 71 and 72.
- apply QA requirements based on nuclear consensus standards in the ASME Boiler & Pressure Code.
- apply the graded approach (based on consequence of component failure) for the development of QA requirements in SARPs.
