Overview
Description
This course is a first-year experience devoted to orienting international students to the university, its surrounding area, and the embedded national cultural context. The FOUNDATION term provides students with essential logistical and academic planning information and exposure to key services and helps familiarize them with their physical and cultural surroundings.

- describe campus resources for managing transportation, financial transactions, and technology.
- explain the process for getting assistance through campus resources, such as the student activities center, counseling center, and career center.
- participate in and describe Signature Student Experiences that expose them to aspects of university life.
- identify and describe similarities and differences between their home culture and U.S. and university culture and apply intercultural communication strategies to bridge differences.
- discuss and compare cultural expectations for scholarship, including U.S. universities’ expectations for academic integrity.
- develop strategies for managing transition stress, including culture shock and homesickness.
