Learning Outcomes

  • sight-sing chromatic melodies including modulations to distantly-related keys using secondary dominants.
  • sight-sing melodies featuring irregular beat divisions and polyrhythms and/or in asymmetrical or mixed meters.
  • sight-sing music in multiple parts (canons, duets, chorales, etc.) appropriate to the topics studied.
  • accurately take melodic dictation of more chromatic harmonies that modulate to distantly related keys.
  • accurately take dictation of rhythms featuring irregular beat divisions and poly-rhythms and/or in asymmetrical or mixed meters.
  • accurately identify and sing the diatonic modes: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian.
  • accurately sing and identify all 7th chords through diminished 7th and major, minor, augmented and diminished triads.
  • accurately find errors in rhythm, pitch, harmony, and/or Solfege.
