- explain the principles and clinical significance of physical, chemical, and microscopic examinations of urine and body fluids.
- perform analysis of urine and other body fluids (e.g., cerebrospinal fluid, synovial, pleural, peritoneal, and pericardial fluids) using standard laboratory techniques and correlate results with common disease states.
- apply principles of quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory safety to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and safety of testing procedures and results.
- identify pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical causes of error in laboratory testing.
- apply laboratory safety practices by using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), following biosafety protocols, and properly disposing of biohazardous materials.
