Learning Outcomes
- perform routine and specialized hematology and coagulation procedures with accuracy and precision, including complete blood counts (CBC), peripheral blood smear evaluations, and coagulation testing (e.g., PT, aPTT).
- identify and differentiate normal and abnormal blood cell morphology using a microscope and automated cell counters, correlating findings with potential hematologic disorders.
- interpret and evaluate hematology and coagulation test results in the context of clinical scenarios to assist in the diagnosis and monitoring of hematologic and hemostatic disorders.
- apply quality control and quality assurance principles to ensure the validity and reliability of hematology and coagulation laboratory results.
- identify pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical causes of error in laboratory testing.
- demonstrate proper safety and specimen handling procedures in compliance with laboratory regulations and infection control standards.
