Description
The course aims to provide advanced knowledge, understanding, and application of sustainability assessment tools and techniques through the use of case studies. The course will focus on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions issues such as global warming potential and ecological/carbon footprint and end-of-life product management (recycling, remanufacturing, and reuse).

Learning Outcomes
- evaluate the importance of social, environmental, and economic challenges in a global context. Students will analyze the causes, features, and practices needed to address the contemporary global crisis toward achieving sustainable development.
- execute life cycle assessment technique using commercial software to evaluate the environmental performance of product use-phase, product design, product end-of-life, and manufacturing processes.
- explain and interpret life cycle assessment results obtained from LO2.
- apply environmental, social, and economic aspects into decision-making processes after interpreting life cycle assessment results.
- analyze the link between manufacturing/production process models and sustainable design metrics for product/process improvement.
- collaborate as a member of a sustainable design research team to author a conference proceedings-level paper using the skills developed and knowledge gained in class.
