Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate understanding of the basic chemistry and physics of explosives, and the performance and environmental characteristics of commercial explosives used in mining industry.
  • utilize the principal mechanics of rock breakage & bench blasting with explosives as applied to mining.
  • demonstrate the ability to design complete blasting systems that meet the needs of the particular mining application i.e. underground or surface mining applications: by selecting engineering bench blast parameters, appropriate explosive charges, and initiation systems.
  • identify and design special engineering blast design applications, i.e. Protective blast design etc.
