  • apply underground mining methods and equipment in more detail. Articulate the requirement of the primary and secondary development, and the drill, blast, muck cycle, and mechanical excavation methods and equipment.
  • communicate the applicability of the mining methods relative to the shape, size and characteristics of the orebody and the design process needed to arrive at a workable layout for access, ventilation and rock handling.
  • explain the layout of the primary and secondary development and stoping/pillar recovery, and provide both 3D and 2D-plan, longitudinal and cross sectional views of the mine and the stoping method.
  • apply methodology and carry out a cost and production estimate for one development and one ideal stope.
  • use computer aided mine design software to facilitate the design of an underground mining operation.
  • critically evaluate alternative underground mine design strategies using optimization techniques and advanced simulation tools, considering geotechnical, economic, and environmental constraints.
  • integrate recent research and industry case studies to propose innovative design or operational improvements for underground mining systems, demonstrating the ability to connect theoretical design principles to real-world applications.
