Learning Outcomes
- define the different types of data used in organizations and identify how best to store that data.
- design a small database that is stable and understand why the design is stable.
- use entity-relationship diagrams (ERD’s) to depict the design of a database. Students will be able to use ERD’s to communicate design concepts with both technical and non-technical personnel.
- implement a database using an appropriate database management system such as Microsoft’s SQL Server DBMS with structured query language (SQL) to create, update, and access data in a database.
- create queries in SQL to produce datasets capable of being processed in other analytical software such as Excel, SAS, Mini-tab and/or SPSS.
- describe the characteristics of computer technology supported information visualization methods. Students will be able to identify guidelines for good information visualization methods.
- design information visualization methods appropriate to support the goals and objectives of a particular application within an organization.
