Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate a basic understanding of the oceanographic parameters controlling marine microplankton distribution and sedimentation patterns in the modern oceans.
- recognize which marine microfossil groups are appropriate for dating various rocks of various ages in the fossil record and which are applicable in addressing paleoclimatologic and paleoecologic questions.
- process a variety of sediments and rocks for microfossils and know which group or groups you are likely to get from each type of sample.
- demonstrate an introductory knowledge (family and genus level) of microfossil taxonomy for the groups covered.
