Overview
Description
A longer perspective on past environmental change provides a basis for understanding current, past and future climatic change impacts. The objective of this course is to review the earth’s climate history in order to understand what that history can tell us about how the climate system operates, how it impacts ecosystems and how it may vary in the future. One key goal will also be to develop an understanding of the types of records used to document past environments.

- discuss ways the environment has changed in the past and be able to reference modern landscapes and explain how they developed through time.
- evaluate the methods used in different disciplines for reconstructing the geography of past environments.
- integrate effective composition and communications skills and critical analysis and use of information to evaluate paleoenvironmental or historical reconstructions of past events.
- students will critically examine scientific articles and distill the key findings
- students will discuss the relevance of paleoenvironmental change to our understanding present and future environmental change.
