- explain at a basic level, the scientific basis for contemporary climate change and describe the associated impacts on society and the environment.
- analyze different proposed societal, scientific, and technological solutions (climate solutions) in terms of their benefits, costs, ethical considerations, and other societal challenges.
- integrate effective composition and communications skills and critical analysis and use of information to evaluate and debate different climate solutions and positions originating within and outside of class (e.g., advocacy groups, governments, industries).
- synthesize information and techniques from previous coursework across disciplines to propose and explore different combinations of climate solutions in various geographic and social contexts.
- describe generally and provide specific examples of the ways the rate of climate change could be slowed or reversed through mitigation and geo-engineering and impacts lessened through adaptation.
- illustrate key biophysical and social challenges associated with such climate solutions.
