Learning Outcomes

  • understand and contribute to the AAC assessment process and involve family members / care providers in this process in meaningful ways.
  • demonstrate awareness of high-tech, mid-tech, low- tech, and no-tech AAC options and appropriately select AAC options based on student characteristics and need.
  • develop AAC solutions that (a) are appropriate for the individual’s chronological age, (b) address symbol understanding of the individual, (c) are functional, and (d) are useful across settings.
  • implement functional communication instruction that is infused within natural routines across settings, team members, and peers.
