  • describe principles of family systems theory in his/her own words, identifying transitions across life spans, providing examples of families’ unique responses to stresses, and describing stressors specific to families with members with disabilities.
  • discuss the role s/he may play in enabling and empowering families in planning for persons with disabilities by identifying community resources available to families, describing legislative requirements for family involvement in educational planning, and providing examples of strategies to encourage family engagement.
  • discuss how issues of ethnic and cultural backgrounds may impact family involvement in the educational system.
