demonstrate a working knowledge of theory and research that explains how adults acquire a second language.
understand and demonstrate ability to use the 5C standards framework of ACTFL in unit/lesson planning.
be able to critically evaluate existing teaching practices and materials based on your understanding of theory and research.
develop teaching materials for the classroom which are informed by theory and research in second language acquisition.
demonstrate a basis grounding in the methodologies most frequently and most efficiently used in the teaching of foreign languages in the secondary school.
discuss the role of technology in the foreign language classroom, and to critically evaluate when a technological tool advances one towards one’s learning objective in a more efficient and/or effective way.
create inside the classroom a community of knowledge—creating learners and teachers who are using certain texts and experiences as references from which to share and exchange knowledge about the social and intellectual processes involved in the teaching and learning of foreign languages through ongoing, active consideration of a body of educational issues sometimes identified as diverse “issues”.
investigate elements of educational policy, professional collaboration, curriculum planning,instructional strategies for exceptional populations, issues revolving around different learning styles, professional ethics, etc.
demonstrate the use of technology as an instructional tool in the foreign language classroom for individual and whole group instruction and practice such as Edmodo, Google Voice, Wordle, yabla!, digital games, webquests, cross-cultural investigations, international classroom-to -classroom projects, foreign language videos, multimedia, songs, etc.
