  • demonstrate understanding of various issues of assessment (e.g. cultural and linguistic bias; political, social, and psychological factors) in assessment, IQ, and special education testing.
  • demonstrate understanding of the difference between language proficiency and other types of assessment (e.g. standardized achievement tests of overall mastery) as they affect academic learning of ELLs.
  • know and use a variety of standards-based language proficiency instruments to inform their instruction and understanding their uses for identification, placement, and demonstration of language growth of ELLs.
  • demonstrate fundamental knowledge needed to make program-level decisions (such as student admission, placement, and exit) and classroom-level decision (such as diagnostic, achievement, and proficiency) for those who plan to teach ESL or EFL.
