- use theories to second language acquisition to identify, discuss and analyze the linguistic and historical trends among selected immigrant groups.
- develop or increase understanding of the complexities of individual, linguistic, sociocultural, educational, and political factors involved in the acquisition of a second language in school settings.
- develop or increase sensitivity to, appreciation of, and respect for, the diverse backgrounds of second language learners.
