Learning Outcomes
- develop a philosophical and practical foundation to guide the teaching of primary grade English/language arts (reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing).
- explore current language arts curriculum philosophies and their specific application to the development of early literacy.
- demonstrate understanding of early literacy components (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary development, comprehension, and writing).
- adapt their perceptions about literacy and learning from those of a student to those of a teacher.
- plan lessons and units of study around curriculum and instructional strategies that will meet the needs of students from diverse and multicultural backgrounds and a wide range of skills and abilities.
