- predict aromaticity in simple molecules and predict aromatic substitution products.
- identify oxygen-containing organic functional groups including alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, and carboxylic acids, and follow their transformations through oxidation-reduction, addition and substitution reactions.
- identify nitrogen containing functional groups including amines, amides, and nitriles through correct prediction of their structures, properties, and simple reactions.
- interpret simple IR spectra of organic molecules.
