Description
A topical overview of the 8 core curricular areas under our accreditation standards (CACREP Standards). This course serves as an introduction to the breadth of the field as well as helping graduate students begin to form and shape an identity as a professional counselor.

- demonstrate the attitudes, characteristics, and behaviors defined by the program as characteristic of exemplar counseling professionals from admission through exit.
- develop self-awareness and awareness of ACA multicultural competencies and be able to discuss them.
- discuss developmental theories across the lifespan.
- demonstrate knowledge of and be able to discuss the fundamentals of the helping relationship.
- identify and discuss dynamics, approaches, types, and ethics involved with group counseling.
- gain knowledge and be able to discuss use of assessments, basic concepts of standardized/non-standardized assessments, and statistical concepts.
- discuss the importance of research, differences and similarities between qualitative and quantitative research, and ethical issues.
