- compare and contrast the characteristics of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes.
- identify and describe agents of genomic conflict.
- describe the mechanisms of epigenetic gene regulation and techniques used for studying those mechanisms.
- explain the role of epigenetic gene regulation in development and the importance of epigenetic change in disease, phenotypic variation, reproduction and aging.
- discuss the sensitivity of epigenomes to environmental factors and potential mechanisms for the inheritance of acquired epigenetic states.
- discuss epigenetic therapy in the treatment of disease.
- define other forms of non-mendelian inheritance (paramutation, meiotic drive, feto-maternal cell trafficking and maternal inheritance) and discuss their phenotypic and evolutionary consequences.
