Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate ability to read and comprehend primary research literature in the field of Behavioral Genetics and Neurobiology during bi-weekly in-class discussions of these research papers throughout the semester.
- demonstrate knowledge to master advanced concepts in modern genetics and molecular analyzes of complex human diseases with dysfunctional behavioral phenotypes, the ability to interpret data, and to critically evaluate data to existing hypotheses during two in-class exams – the mid-term and final exam – and two quizzes.
- focus on specific chosen topics on a particular human behavior or disorder, search and read primary literature, describe the current state 2 of existing evidence for genetic and environmental influences underlying these behaviors and disorders, all of which will be presented as a written up-to-date critical review paper with proper citations at the end of the semester.
- demonstrate their understanding of specific chosen topics in Behavioral Genetics by presenting their written paper or proposal, including background information, critical evaluation of published literature, novel hypotheses and experimental design to test these hypotheses, in an oral presentation before the entire class at the end of the semester.
