Description
In-depth study of the initial on-field and clinical evaluation of orthopedic injuries and conditions of the lower extremities and spine. Includes anatomy review, obtaining a medical history, assessing function, and selecting and using tests and measures that assess for common orthopedic injuries.

- perform a subjective assessment to review symptoms, injury mechanism, and functional limitations.
- complete observation or inspection of posture, gait, edema, and alignment.
- perform structural examination including palpation of joints, muscle atrophy assessment, and rotational alignment.
- administer functional testing to assess mobility and strength through movement, such as single-leg squats, running, and jumping.
- document findings accurately using the SOAP note format (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan).
- identify management strategies for emergent and non-emergent injuries.
