Learning Outcomes
- recognize and identify the differences between an “image” driven narrative and a “literature” [language, dialogue] driven narrative.
- understand and identify technical, mechanical and conceptual terms and ideas used in the cinema world [some of which may be unique to a specific film or genre].
- demonstrate familiarity with the “Business” of the Film “Industry” and the impact the collision between image, concept and bottom line play in what is, probably quite correctly termed: “The Film Industry” as talking films entered the market and took over in the Thirties and Forties.
- discuss and demonstrate understanding of a form of “creativity” that depends upon a variety of disparate sources from which to construct something new and, in its way, totally different from anything which has preceded it.
- recognize and identify these disparate strands by relating them to cinema examples which have come before via editing and production design.
- apply analytical and critical thinking strategies and techniques to the screening of films toward understanding the various narrative strategies employed.
